Race towards 'autonomous' AI agents grips Silicon Valley

• Experiments with the advanced AI technology GPT-4 are underway in various startups, with some companies nearing completion of multi-step tasks that require sophisticated reasoning.

• Inflection AI, Adept and OpenAI are among the companies investing billions of dollars into developing personal assistants ("agents") capable of performing complex tasks without close supervision.

• Computer scientists have warned of potential harms associated with powerful agents, such as perpetuation of human biases and criminal actions.

• Particular caution has been urged due to the possibility of future agents surpassing humans cognitively yet lacking a moral compass.

Stability AI’s Clipdrop launches Stable Doodle, or sketch to image

• Stability AI's new product, Stable Doodle, enables users to transform basic sketches into beautiful images.

• It is available for free use online and is suitable for both professionals and novices alike.

• The tool frees up valuable time, allowing designers and illustrators to quickly create works for clients or websites.

• Its user-friendly approach is powered by Stability AI's Stable Diffusion XL model combined with the T2I-Adapter condition control solution from Tencent ARC.

• With 77M parameters, the T2I-Adapter offers additional guidance to pre-trained text-to-image models while keeping them unchanged.

Also over at Stable - Co-Founder Accuses Company of Tricking Him Into Selling Stake for $100 in Lawsuit

• Tech entrepreneur Cyrus Hodes is suing Stability AI, the company he co-founded with CEO Mohammad Emad Mostaque, for alleged willful deception about the company's value.

• Hodes sold his 15 percent stake in Stability AI for only $100. The company has since started a new funding round at a valuation of $4 billion, turning Hodes’ former stake into over half a billion dollars.

• Per the complaint, Emad allegedly embezzled funds from Stability AI to pay family rent and had prior history of cheating investors. Additionally, he allegedly kept secret his project Stable Diffusion which rivals OpenAI products DALL-E and Midjourney.

• Earlier this year, artists filed class action lawsuit against Stability AI accusing it of using their copyrighted images to train image-generation models.
