Anthropic launch Claude 2 .. The best ChatGPT competitor yet?

• Claude 2 is an improved model that can be accessed via an API or public-facing beta website.

• Users report that Claude is easier to converse with and more reliable than earlier versions.

• Improvements in math, coding, and reasoning are seen; for example, the multiple-choice section of the Bar exam was scored 76.5%, up from 73.0% with Claude 1.3.

• Performance and safety have been increased by enabling input and output of larger amounts of data (up to 100K tokens).

• The API for businesses remains the same price as earlier models, while anyone in the US and UK can try out the chat experience today.

Netflix’s AI-assisted green screen bathes actors in eye-searing magenta

• Netflix has developed a new technique to make compositing easier, called "Magenta Green Screen" which requires actors to be lit with a combination of red, blue and green light.

• This method produces impressive results by separating the foreground and background directly on-set.

• The team trained a machine learning model to restore the missing green channel from the magenta-lit images in post-production.

• Time-multiplexing potential allows for light changes 144 times per second, which could appear as nearly constant lighting to actors on set.

• Iain Anderson, owner of the Sydney printer Charing Cross Photo, stated that while AI is slowly being accepted into competitions, they still prefer traditional photographs taken by an individual present at the actual scene.
