Snapchat’s AI chatbot is now free for all global users, says the AI will later ‘Snap’ you back

• Snap announced today at its Partner Summit that its AI chatbot will be available for free worldwide.

• Users have already sent nearly 2 million messages to the chatbot.

• New features include group chat integration, place and Lens recommendations, and “generative” visual replies.

• Initially, the AI went off-track due to users’ attempts at getting inappropriate responses; the company then added age filters and parental controls.

• The AI can offer suggestions on activities or Lenses when mentioned in a group chat and eventually users with Snapchat+ subscriptions will be able to send it a photo and receive an appropriate generative response in return (eg. a funny dog photo).

• “They trained illegally using Twitter data,” Musk tweeted. “Lawsuit time.”

• The threat came after Mashable and other publications reported that Microsoft would drop Twitter from its advertising platform.
