Elon is warning about the fast development of AI, which is nothing new, but this time he is joined by over 1000 tech leaders in an online petition and they make valid points about this rapid uncontrolled progress.

Elon Musk, Steve Wozniak Urge OpenAI to Halt ChatGPT Upgrades

• Prominent technologists, researchers, and influencers have signed a petition calling for OpenAI to cease training of AI tool ChatGPT beyond current GPT-4 implementation for 6 months.

• Letter has received over 1,100 signatures from high-profile figures such as Elon Musk, Steve Wozniak, and Andrew Yang.

• Furthermore, the letter posits that if the private company is unable to stop training its AI beyond GTP4, then governments should step in to institute a moratorium.

• Musk himself responded to the petition on Twitter with the message “Leading [artificial intelligence] developers will not heed this warning, but at least it was said.”

Generative AI set to affect 300 million jobs across major economies

• Goldman Sachs research suggests that AI systems could automate 25% of work in the US and eurozone, potentially leading to a 7% increase in global GDP over 10 years.

• However, this would bring "significant disruption" to the labor market, with ~300 million full-time workers exposed to automation.

• Roughly 66% of US and European jobs could be affected by AI automation, with most seeing less than half their workload automated.

• Globally, 20% of work could be done by AI, though the technology will not yet be adopted for sensitive tasks such as court rulings or medical care.

• If investment continues at current rates, it could reach 1% of US GDP by 2030.

ChatGPT and A.I. might have a future as your portfolio manager

• The investment industry has long used algorithms and quantitative trading programs in an effort to boost profits, but the recent breakthroughs in AI opens up new possibilities.

• A preliminary paper from two academics in South Korea shows that ChatGPT is already a better portfolio manager than just throwing darts.

• The researchers said the early results showed that ChatGPT could be used as a “co-pilot” for investors, but not a “prophet.”
