Leica Cameras now come with built in AI Defense

Leica Camera has introduced the M11-P, a camera that features Content Credentials, based on C2PA's open standard. Content Credentials automatically encrypts metadata, preserving details about where and when a photo was taken, editing history, and the tools used. It helps photojournalists protect their work from AI manipulation. Leica's hardware is the first to implement this system, empowering photographers to establish a chain of authenticity from capture to sharing. Content Credentials, an opt-in feature, can be erased. This innovation addresses concerns about image provenance in an age of AI-generated content.

In reality, their data deletion request form is not a true opt-out tool.

The company's history with projects like PyTorch influences their approach to openness. They work with industry groups to develop guidelines for safe AI deployment, emphasizing collaboration. The debate over AI model licensing and the need for rethinking open-source licenses continues, with OSI exploring solutions. Ultimately, openness in AI should include acknowledging risks and welcoming feedback.
