Alphabet and EU Commission Aim to Develop AI Pact Ahead of Rules

• Alphabet and the European Commission are working together to develop an AI pact involving European and non-European companies before rules are established to govern the technology.

• EU Commissioner for Competition Margrethe Vestager and Commission Vice President Vera Jourova have both voiced their concerns about the spread of pro-Kremlin war propaganda and disinformation on Google's products and services.

• The European Union and the United States plan to step up cooperation on artificial intelligence to establish minimum standards before legislation enters force.

Microsoft and OpenAI Partner to Offer Bing as Default Search Engine in ChatGPT Chatbot

• Microsoft announced that it will offer Bing as the default search engine in OpenAI's viral ChatGPT chatbot.

• Microsoft has invested billions of dollars in OpenAI and is using the startup's AI chatbot technology inside search, email, Word documents, Excel spreadsheets and now to analyze data.

• OpenAI relies on Microsoft's Azure cloud for computing needs and the companies are taking on Google.

• Microsoft is trying to expand the use of Bing and is offering developers the ability to build plugins that work in ChatGPT, Bing and its Copilot chatbot coming to Microsoft 365 apps such as Word and Excel.

OpenAI Outpaces Tesla: AI Humanoid Robots Are Taking Jobs

• OpenAI-funded company 1X has launched AI-powered humanoid robots, EVE, in real-world settings.

• EVE has been deployed as a security guard and is expected to be used in elderly care in the next 5-10 years.

• Google has introduced Med-PaLM 2, an advanced language model fine-tuned specifically for the medical field.

• Tesla has also given an update on their humanoid robot program, Optimus, which is expected to be a major part of their long-term value.
