• Meta, the parent company of Facebook, has released LLaMA, an AI language generator designed to help experts tackle problems in AI language models.

• The release includes a quartet of different-sized models, with Meta claiming their second-smallest model performs better than OpenAI’s GPT-3.

• Access is being granted to universities, NGOs and industry labs via a noncommercial license.

• Aimed at researchers and not general users, it is hoped LLaMA will prove more successful than previous Meta chatbot attempts which were met with criticism for poor quality output.
