Samsung make 'Bing' their default search, so Google is reportedly developing a new AI-powered search engine

• Google is developing a new AI-powered search engine to gain an edge over competitors Microsoft and OpenAI.

• More than 160 employees have been assigned to the project, codenamed "Magi".

• Features in development include a chatbot for software engineering questions & code snippets, contextual info on webpages with “Searchalong”, "GIFI" & "Tivoli Tutor" for image searches & language learning.

• Magi will be announced next month and available to one million people in the US by year's end.

Photographer admits prize-winning image was AI-generated (this is obviously our photo of the day below)

• German artist Boris Eldagsen won a prize for a creative photograph at the Sony World Photography Awards, but has decided to refuse it.

• Eldagsen has a background in photography and visual arts, and he applied for the award as an experiment to test if competitions were prepared for AI images to enter.

• He refused the award in order to spark open discussion about what should be considered photography.

• Eldagsen encouraged donating the prize money to a photo festival in Odesa, Ukraine.

• The World Photography Organisation confirmed that Eldagsen had informed them of his "co-creation" using AI before he was announced as the winner, but given his subsequent statement invalidating warranties provided they cannot engage with him constructively anymore.

ChatGPT Will Change Housework

• While its capabilities have been lauded for its ability to lighten the burden of domestic work, it's controversial as it raises questions over how much AI will replace human labor.

• Some users have found it helpful for one-off tasks like planning summer camps for their children or family vacations. However, with limited knowledge of the post-2021 world and occasional clichéd suggestions or off-base recommendations, it is not yet the perfect assistant.

• As AI technology advances and further integrates into home life, AI could shape chores in unanticipated ways such as raising hygiene standards or making tough-to-find ingredients more accessible.

• Ultimately, while ChatGPT can be seen as a helpful household assistant to relieve some of the time spent on chores and help create equality in unpaid domestic labor between genders, it is still no substitute for an equal partner when it comes to conception (e.g. noticing what needs to be done).
